Some Thoughts

The question is always asked; Why are you thinking about a firearm? If you answer, for sport, hunting, and most importantly it is your constitutional right, congratulations, the shooting sports is a vibrant community. There are many sporting activities for you and your family.

If you are thinking about self defense at all, then you need to consider that self defense is a strategy. A firearm just one of the many tools in your self defense strategy. Buying a firearm doesn't educate you in self defense strategy anymore than buying a hammer makes you a carpenter.

It is important to get training. Train both physically and mentally. Train in the proper use of your firearm in a variety of circumstances and under various stressful situations. Learn to solve challenges. Understand mindset, how to think, the most important tool you have.

The stronger and more capable you are, the greater your responsibility to learn non-violent solutions. Remember, Training creates choices. Your ability to understand conflict and to use common sense tools to reduce or eliminate a threat without a firearm or violence, is your moral and ethical responsibility. Learn de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution strategies and most importantly, a situational awareness that helps you avoid conflict altogether.

Speaking of survival, what is your medical training? Are you and your family CPR certified and are your credentials up to date? How about First Aid, Stop the Bleed and AED? It is likely a 100% chance that you will need to help someone medically in your lifetime. That someone will probably be a family member. Are you ready?
